The Carsey-Wolf Center supports research in six main areas that reflect the scope and depth of media studies as a field: Media Industries, Media and the Environment, Global Media, Information Media, Media and Democracy and Storytelling and Narrative. The Center’s research activities include long-term publishing initiatives, scholarly lectures and conferences, and academically-oriented public programs at the Pollock Theater.

Faculty Research Grants
We support innovative and timely research across the UCSB campus by providing grants to faculty members who are pursuing work that engages with one or more of our six primary research areas. Up to $5000 in grant funding is available for a range of initiatives, including conferences and symposia, seed funding for new projects, or emerging teaching initiatives.
Film Festival Fellowship
This unique fellowship provides funds for faculty and advanced graduate students to attend major film festivals, both in support of their own research and to scout titles for future Pollock Theater screening programs. Recipients may receive up to $5000 in funding to defray costs of travel, accommodation, and festival fees, and are expected to provide a post-festival report detailing at least five potential future Pollock events.
Event Cosponsorships
To enhance interdisciplinary collaboration across the university, we provide grant funding in support of events from across campus that engage one or more of our core research areas. Requests for retroactive funding are not eligible.
